this place seems rather spooky in a weird way. Its a shame the town is obliterated. It was a nice little town in the old days.

Antlion Farms

Antlion Battle

I've been doing website illustrations for about 3 years now for the fine folks at Antlion Farms. If you're not familiar with antlions, they're very cool little critters.

The larva dig a conical pit in the sand, then sit at the bottom and wait for something (often an ant) to fall in. Then they grab it, poison it, suck it dry, and throw it back out. Brutal!

I kept antlions as pets during university, in some cornmeal that was infested with tenebrionids (little brown flour beetles). They made great teaching tools for my outdoor education talks at the local state parks. So when I first heard about this company's plans to sell them in kits, I was excited. Go send some business their way! I'd love to order some, but I don't think Customs Canada would like that very much.
