this place seems rather spooky in a weird way. Its a shame the town is obliterated. It was a nice little town in the old days.

King Weevil

King Weevil

There's a statue in Enterprise, Alabama of a woman holding aloft a giant weevil. The historical plaque nearby reads:

In profound appreciation of the Boll Weevil and what it has done as the herald of prosperity, this monument is erected by the citizens of Enterprise.

King weevil helped to dethrone King Cotton in the region, thus forcing it to diversify its economy and avoid future ruin. If only weevils could do the same for all the struggling single-industry towns in the north. If Flint, Michigan had been overrun by GM Weevils, just think how prosperous they might be today.
